Summer Survival Essentials

The best part of summer is spent outdoors with family and friends doing your favorite things and having fun. Make sure you’re equipped with the right tools before spending hours outdoors. Nothing can put a damper summer fun like an blisters on your feet, an uncomfortable sunburn or realizing your deodorant is not quite up to the task. Below I list some of my favorite summer survival essentials to just do that.

INSECT REPELLANT

Most commercial mosquito repellents use non-biodegradable, synthetic chemicals like N-diethyl-3-methylbenzmide (DEET), dimethyl phthalate (DMP), and allethrin; fortunately, Young Living’s Insect Repellent repels mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas using only 100 percent naturally derived, plant-based ingredients.

With only pure sesame oil, Citronella, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Geranium, Spearmint, Thyme, and Clove essential oils (carefully selected for their bug-repellent properties) and vitamin E (a natural preservative), this vegan, hypoallergenic formula will give you the best results, naturally. That means you can use it on your little ones and not worry about the synthetic chemicals used in many traditional repellents. Need more to love about it? The smell is divine! You won’t be bothered by an offensive, chemical smell laying on you or your loved ones!

**TIP Make it into a SPRAY… Add a generous squirt (about 3 tsp) of your insect repellent to a 1 oz. spray bottle, and fill the rest with water. Shake well before use and you’re ready to go!

DIY Suntan Lotion

1/2 bottle Genesis Hand Lotion
1/2 bottle Lavender Hand Lotion
1 (5ml) bottle Carrot Seed EO
60 drops Myrrh EO
20 drops Frankincense EO
40 drops Lavendar EO
Topped off with fractionated coconut oil

Mix together in a half empty bottle of Genesis Hand Lotion bottle or Lavender Lotion. Shake well before use! Remember to reapply every couple of hours throughout the day, especially when participating in water activities.

I’ve tried other DIY suntan lotions but LOVE this one!!! It works well as long as I remember to reapply it as needed and I love that doesn’t leave a sticky residue behind that I have to scrub off at the end of day.

Lavender Lip Balm

To keep lips soft and moist and also can be used to sooth bites, and minor cuts and abrasions on the skin.

Cel-Lite Magic Massage Oil

Cel-Lite Magic massage oil features Grapefruit, Cypress, Juniper, Cedarwood, and Clary Sage essential oil diluted for a fresh, energizing massage experience. It works with your skin to improve the natural skin barrier and improve the appearance of skin tone and texture. Massage on locations where firming and toning is desired.

-Grapefruit essential oil has a fresh, uplifting aroma and provides cleansing properties.
-Cypress essential oil has a clean, evergreen aroma that can be used aromatically to create an ambience of security and grounding. Applied topically, it has benefits for skin, hair, and scalp.
-Juniper essential oil beautifies and tonifies the skin when applied topically, making it a great addition to lymphatic and post-workout massage oil blends.
-Cedarwood essential oil has a calming and soothing aroma, and it promotes the appearance of healthy skin, hair, and scalp when applied topically.

Refresh Your Pits

Your underarm pits may need some refreshing so be sure to take along some Meadow Mist or valor Deodorant Thieves… and one can use AromaBright Toothpaste (it contains baking soda) in a pinch!

For Air Travel

Anyone who’s flown on a plane know how dry the inside of your nose can get during long flights. Year ago, a friend of mine suggested dipping a Q-tip in ointment and applying to the inside of nose. So I started using either Animal Scents Ointment or Rose Ointment. ne of the best tips I’ve ever gotten and have passed it on to others.

Additional essentials to have on hand!

We recently took a trip to Disneyworld and I was not prepared enough for the blisters so we actually had to pick up some Mole Skin Padding and more Flexible-Fabric BAND-AIDS. It made all the difference and allowed me to continue walking comfortably without pain.

BLISTERS
-Band-Aids (I prefer the Flexible Fabric/waterproof ones) and
-Mole Skin Padding
-Baby Powder- Apply to the bottoms of feet to help keep them cool and dry while pounding the pavement

A Wide Brimmed Hat
-Don’t forget to protect your head. It’ll help keep your scalp from getting sunburned. I prefer to use one with little holes, making it breathable, so the hat doesn’t store the heat from your head.
