Making your own scented potpourri and pinecones is so easy to do, and much better for you than the artificially scented ones you buy at the store.
Most artificially scented potpourri and pinecones, found in stores or online, use adulterated essential oils. They’re loaded with man-made chemicals, cooked up in a lab somewhere. They’re essentially synthetic versions of the real thing and should be strictly avoided. You may be one of those people who find that they can’t walk into stores that carry them without breaking out with a headache, hives, or having a severe asthmatic attacks. Unfortunately, your body is violently reacting to the toxic chemicals and solvents they contain. Most people who experience these type of reactions find that they are able to make their own homemade versions using Young Living essential oils. Our Seed to Seal process ensures that you’re getting the highest quality, genuine essential oils. Just the way mother nature intended!
Fortunately, there is an easy, safe and natural way to make your own. When it comes to scents, we have many choices to choose from. Some of my favorites during the holidays are Christmas Spirit, Idaho Grand Fir (formerly Idaho Balsam Fir), Thieves, Northern Lights Black Spruce, Cinnamon , Nutmeg, Clove, Vanilla (coming Nov. 9th), and Evergreen Essence for those of you who grabbed this limited edition! And heck, who says you have to wait for the holidays? Make your own scented potpourri to freshen your home year round!
INSTRUCTIONS
Drop the oils directly onto the pine cones (appx. 30 drops- more or less, depending on the amount of pinecones or potpourri you have) and place inside a paper bag and seal.
Next, place paper bag inside a plastic bag and tightly seal. Let sit for at least 2 weeks before using.
Depending on the size and amount of pinecones you have you could use large, gallon sized glass jars instead of paper and plastic bags. Reuse the same jar to make more for each particular scent and no oil wasted, as well as for storage for next year.
Placing pinecones (or potpourri) in a closed container helps infuse the scent into the entire pinecone and will make the scent will last much longer. To refresh, just repeat process.
NOTE: Remember, citrus and even clove essential oils don’t mix well with plastic. The oils will eat through plastic which is why I suggest placing your scented pinecones or potpourri inside a gallon sized jar or placing inside paper bag first, and then inside a plastic bag.
Begin the process now for the holidays. That way, you’ll be good to go when the holidays roll around. You can quickly pull out your finished pinecones or potpourri and place in containers to spread around your home. Place in your kitchen, dining room, bathroom, family room and bedrooms. You can even use the pinecones as Christmas tree ornaments! It will leave your home will smelling aMaZING, leaving your friends and family commenting on how wonderful your home smells.
