I want to share with you about a an experience we had during our recent vet visit and remind you that essential oil‘s are not just for humans but can be great for our pets too.
It’s funny how each animal responds differently when going to the vet and, just like us humans, can find it to be a stressful experience. Our dog had a serious health issue recently and we were making frequent vet visits. The vet was drawing blood from her at each visit which I’m sure wasn’t a pleasant experience. Surprisingly, in spite of this, she was actually excited to go, each and every time. I guess she is what you would call a “social butterfly”. In spite of the blood draw, she was always excited to go and couldn’t wait to visit with the other dogs that came in. Go figure!
At our second to last visit, one particular dog came in and was NOT having a pleasant experience. In fact, this poor elderly dog was digging his heels in and the owners were having a hard time getting him past the entrance area and into the waiting room, in spite of their coaxing. They were finally successful but the poor dog’s entire body was trembling and shaking. He was so scared that he pooped in the entrance area on the way in. We felt so sorry for the poor dog and the owners too, as he was clearly very stressed over this vet visit and wanted to be anywhere but there.
Fortunately, I always carry small sample sized bottles of oils with me. I couldn’t stand to see this dog so stressed out so I decided to conduct an experiment. I pulled out my pouch of essential oils that I carry in my purse. I took out the bottle of Peace and Calming (P&C in image below) and simply placed a couple of drops in the palm of my hand and then applied to the back of my dog. The scent quickly filled the room and just as I had hoped, literally, within 2-3 minutes the elderly dog was no longer a nervous wreck. He was lying down totally relaxed and calm! It was amazing to watch.
It also had a calming affect on our dog too. She actually laid down on the floor, which she NEVER does when at the vet. She’s always too excited and can’t wait to greet the next dog that comes in.
There are other oils that might have been helpful too… an oil blend like Valor would be a good one to consider, or Lavender essential oil. Fortunately all three of these oils are found in our Premium Starter Kit. There are additional essential oils or blends you might want to try, so consider your options and give them a try the next time you find your dog, or yourself for that matter, in a similar situation. To learn how to use essential oils on your pets be sure to grab yourself a good animal essential oil desk reference so you can learn which Young Livings are safe to use on your beloved pets and how to do so safely.
