Making Healthy Choices- Killer Sloppy Joe’s

Once you try this Killer Sloppy Joe’s with Portobella Mushrooms recipe I’m sure it’s going to become a family favorite just as it has mine. Loaded with fiber, this recipe also uses portobella mushrooms instead of the traditional hamburger bun which is really helpful for those looking for a healthier version of this age-old favorite, or for those looking for recipes to support their weight management goals. This entree is relatively quick and easy to make which is always a plus in my opinion, and has become one that I use frequently any time of year.   KILLER SLOPPY JOE’S WITH PORTOBELLA MUSHROOMS   INGREDIENTS   large garlic clove 1 white or yellow onion, diced extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) or beef broth 1 pound ground beef 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce (preferably organic) 1-2 tablespoon Bragg’s raw apple cider vinegar (ACV) 1 packet Stevia Plus- for EACH Tbsp of ACV … Continue reading

Making Healthy Choices- HEALTHY BEVERAGES

In today’s toxic world, if you want to live life to its fullest then you need to be making healthy choices in many areas of your life. Some of the simplest ways to do this is to make sure that you are eating whole foods and drinking healthy beverages, ones that aren’t over-processed, denatured, full of sugar and loaded with toxic-chemicals or pesticides. When you supply your body with what it needs it will respond in positive ways. It really is very simple, it just isn’t necessarily easy. We’re all creatures of habit and most of us find it difficult to break old patterns especially ones that have been ingrained in us for many years, but it can be done. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you have trouble giving up sugar. Did you know that studies show that sugar is just as addictive as cocaine… yep, that’s right! … Continue reading

Dirty Little Secrets of the Fragrance Industry

The fragrance industry doesn’t want you to know about their dirty little secrets! They don’t want you to know that your favorite scented candles, and personal care and household products… perfume, shampoo, lotion, shower gel, deodorant, dryer sheets, fabric softener, air fresheners, etc. contain a complex concoction of toxic synthetic chemicals, could be the root cause of some of your health issues. They take chemicals from their stockpile of chemical ingredients, often made from petrochemicals, to produce some of the best smelling, allergy-inducing, hormone disrupting, headache and cancer causing fragrances in the world. What they don’t tell you about is that many of these chemicals present potential health risks and build up in people’s bodies and pollute it. According to Environmental Working Group (EWG)… “When you see “fragrance” on a personal care product’s label, read it as “hidden chemicals.” A major loophole in FDA’s federal law lets manufacturers of products … Continue reading

MAKING HEALTHY CHOICES… The Path Towards Health!

The path towards health begins by making healthy choices and includes eating real food along with getting plenty of exercise. They are probably the two most important things that we can do for our physical and mental health. Sadly, for a lot people that’s not the norm. With our busy lifestyles its easy to let both of these slip towards the back of the priority list isn’t it? I know I struggle with it and bet most of you do too. For those wanting to begin making better, healthier choices for themselves and their family begin first by taking steps to educate yourself on the benefits of eating REAL live food including how to incorporate cultured foods into your diet, and getting plenty of exercise. It may be just the motivation you need to make any necessary changes needed. Eating highly processed foods which may contain harmful additives and chemicals, … Continue reading

Making Healthy Choices- DIY Electric Dishwasher Detergent

Yesterday I was inspired by my friend Leah, a fellow oiler and Heaven Scent Team Member, and after hearing of her success with her homemade DIY electric dishwasher powder I decided it was finally time for me make the switch from store bought dishwasher detergent to my own homemade version. I knew that I was almost out of Cascade so the timing was perfect. She informed me that she makes her own dishwasher detergent and said regarding Cascade… “I can’t tolerate it at all! When I went to use it at my mom’s it made me seriously nauseous. I stopped using it a couple of years ago and was using the melaleuca dishwasher liquid but it is very pricey!!” I told her that one would think that any residue would be rinsed away during the rinse cycle. She replied… “Nooooo…. the heat drying usually bakes it into the dish. Put … Continue reading

Winter BEAUTY Regime for Dry Skin

Winter weather can bring along with it dry, itchy, flaky skin due to harsh soaps, dry indoor air, low humidity, winter wind and cold-weather! Fortunately though, there are safe, natural everyday products found in many homes that one can use to help hydrate and soothe dry skin without using the commercial, chemical laden lotions and oils on the market. Soothing the itch and re-hydrating your skin by treating it with a winter beauty regime, once-a-week, is a lot easier and cheaper than you might think. During the winter I try to exfoliate and moisturize by using a homemade DIY oil based body scrub made up of organic extra virgin olive oil, epsom salts, plain white sugar and essential oils. I don’t always have time to do this and will often just simply apply this luxuriously rich body butter after showering instead. Either of these will leave your skin feeling … Continue reading

Making Healthy Choices- Living Chemical Free

Lets be honest… living totally chemical free in this present day and age is next to impossible! That being said there are simple steps that we can take to greatly reduce our exposure to them and at the top of my list is getting rid of plastics. You see many of the everyday common plastics that we are using contain a potentially dangerous chemical called bisphenol-A (BPA). So you probably find yourself wondering “What in the world IS BPA and why is it so dangerous?” It’s a controversial plastic additive widely used in plastic packaging and the lining of drinks cans. It’s been shown to be a hormone disruptor and many have concerns about its potentially adverse human health effects caused by exposure to this synthetic estrogen. It has been linked to numerous issues, such as reproductive, immunity, neurological problems, and metabolic disease, along with others like cardiovascular disease, childhood … Continue reading

Making Healthy Choices… Educational Series

Much about our modern way of living isn’t really about making healthy choices it’s about making decisions based on convenience and in the end we pay the price with our health!  Years ago I made a conscience decision to take control of the reins to my family’s healthcare choices. We had a situation arise with my daughter health that prompted this. At the time, I didn’t have a clue as to what I was going to do… I just KNEW that there was a better way than what was being proposed. My maternal instinct, my gut reaction, was “NO WAY!” This is not NORMAL… there has to be a better way, so I started searching for solutions that were safe, natural and effective. So, the first thing I began doing was to talk with two friends who I knew were familiar with alternative therapies and I began there. Then I … Continue reading
