The Power of DIFFUSING Essential Oils

When properly distilled and produced in their pure unadulterated state, essential oils are some of the most concentrated natural extracts known to mankind, and their use dates back to ancient times. Largely overlooked until recent years, they are making a resurgence and are one of the hottest new trends but this time around they are not likely to disappear from use.

Essential oils and plant extracts have been woven into history since the beginning of time and are considered by many to be some of the most powerful substances on earth which explains the huge amount of interest they’re generating, to include within today’s scientific community. Essential oils also provide exquisite fragrances to balance mood, lift spirits, dispel negative emotions, and create a romantic atmosphere, and so much more!

“The ability of essential oils to act on both the mind and the body is what makes them truly unique among natural therapeutic substances. The fragrance of some essential oils can be very stimulating– both psychologically and physically.”–  D. Gary Young

“The sense of smell is the only one of the five senses directly linked to the limbic lobe of the brain, the emotional control center. Anxiety, depression, fear, anger, and joy all emanate from this region. The scent of special fragrance can evoke memories and emotions before we are even consciously aware of it. When smells are concerned, we react first and think later. All other senses (touch, taste, hearing, and sight) are routed through the thalamus, which acts as the switchboard for the brain, passing stimuli onto the cerebral cortex (the consious thought center) and other parts of the brain.”

Essential oils, through their fragrance and unique molecular structure, have the ability to pass the blood brain barrier and can directly stimulate the limbic lobe and the hypothalamus. Cold-air diffusing of essential oils is a great way to combat stress and support healthy emotional responses. Whether used aromatically, topically or ingested, the use of essential oils help support the body on a physical level and all of the various body systems, and on a spiritual level. We typically refer to this as affecting the body, mind, and spirit! No wonder they were more valuable than gold in ancient times, although many still hold to that premise!

“In studies conducted at Vienna and Berlin Universities, researchers found that sesquiterpenes found in essential oils such as vetiver, patchouli, cedarwood, sandalwood, and frankincense can increase levels of oxygen in the brain by up to 28 percent (Nasel, 1992). Such an increase in brain oxygen may lead to a heightened level of activity in the hypothalamus and limbic systems of the brain, which can have dramatic effects on not only emotions, learning, and attitude but also on many physical processes of the body such as immune function, hormone balance, and energy levels. High levels of sesquiterpenes also occur in melissa, myrrh, cedarwood, and clove oils.”

The Benefits of Cold-Air Diffusing
Cold-air diffusers are designed to atomize essential oils into micro-fine particles where they remain suspended in the air for several hours. Unlike aroma lamps or candles, or worse, the very toxic scented oil air fresheners which if broken and spilled in a store require a HAZMAT procedure to clean and remove, a diffuser actually disperses the oils into the air without heating or burning, which can render the oil less therapeutically beneficial, or worse… create toxic compounds. Research shows that cold-air diffusing of certain oils may:

  • Can eliminate unpleasant odors not just mask them
  • Relax the body, relieve tension, and clear the mind
  • Help with weight management
  • Improve concentration, alertness, and mental clarity
  • Stimulate neurotransmitters
  • Stimulate growth hormone production and receptivity
  • Support healthy digestive function
  • Increase oxygen availability
  • Produce negative ions and release natural ozone
