12 Days of Christmas DIY Water Crystal Gel Diffusers

Making DIY Water Crystal Gel Diffusers is the focus of day 6 of our 12 Days of Christmas DIY Recipes. Another oh so easy recipe and a great gift idea that you can make look very elegant, or sweet and simple… it’s totally up to you and once again can be very inexpensive to do!

Once I started using Young Living’s essential oils I learned about the importance of removing as many chemicals as possible from our environment because of all the detrimental effects they have on our body, and that they react negatively with essential oils. It’s been an on-going process but I’m making slow, steady progress. Last year I got rid of all the plastic storage containers for storing leftovers and went to glass. You can learn more about that here.

I no longer use chemical laden fragrant candles either. I now diffuse essential oils by either using cold-air diffusers or using gel diffusers. Cold air diffusers are best for diffusing microfine particles into the air but I also love using these gel diffusers. They should be used in small spaces like bathrooms, closets, at your desk at work or even in your cars cup holder. They look beautiful, leave a slight aroma in small areas and best of all… they’re chemical-free! When the scent begins to fade you simply refresh them by quickly adding a couple of drops of essential oils, along with a teaspoon or two of water to help rehydrate the beads. They just need to be used in small areas.

I love to repurpose & reuse… turning someone else’s trash into TREASURE. I think I accomplished that here. Sharing your love of Young Living’s essential oils and gifting others does’t have to be expensive. The tall gold & glass container cup looks very expensive and elegant doesn’t it, and would make a very beautiful gift! I found this gem at a local thrift store and you won’t believe this, but I got it for $1! Yep, that’s right… one dollar. As soon as I saw it I knew I was going to use it for this project. The water crystals cost approximately $5 but I only used about a 1/4 of the package. So this gift cost me a little over $2 to make the tall gold and glass container, along with the cost of a few drops of essential oils. Pretty awesome and inexpensive gift wouldn’t you say?

You may not want to give an elegant gift and may want to create something more simple, and down to earth. Use a simple pint sized decorative mason jar, or other glass containers with a lid and dress it up with tulle and ribbon, or leave it simple and clean… your choices are endless.

There isn’t really a “recipe” for this. All you do is to place the gel beads, water gems or water crystals (many names for the same thing) into a bowl with lots of water and let the beads rehydrate and expand. Look for them in the floral sections of craft stores or purchase online. They are either clear or come in various colors. Then place them in your chosen container and then add your choice of essential oils. To diffuse remove lid and/or place tulle and mason jar “ring” over tulle and screw onto jar.

During the Christmas holidays I love to use Christmas Spirit… a sweet, spicy blend of orange, cinnamon, and spruce essential oils that tap into the happiness, joy, and security associated with the holiday season. Other popular blends are Purification which helps freshen and neutralize odors, or Citrus Fresh with its clean, uplifting and energizing scent. You have many, many other blends, along with a long list of single oils to choose from. Again, your options are wide and varied.

At Young Living, we encourage everyone to live healthy, chemical free lifestyles… ones that includes the use of our premium-grade essential oils. We like to call it living an “Oil Infused Lifestyle”. Those people who experience the best results with essential oils are the ones using their oils everyday. Remember, if you’re new to essential oils be sure to check out this page. Begin slowly and wait to see how you respond to them. Do you want to experience the same amazing results that you see and hear being experienced by others? Then use them consistently. Every. Single. Day.

Blessings on your journey… and happy OILING!
