Making Healthy Choices- Killer Sloppy Joe’s

Once you try this Killer Sloppy Joe’s with Portobella Mushrooms recipe I’m sure it’s going to become a family favorite just as it has mine. Loaded with fiber, this recipe also uses portobella mushrooms instead of the traditional hamburger bun which is really helpful for those looking for a healthier version of this age-old favorite, or for those looking for recipes to support their weight management goals. This entree is relatively quick and easy to make which is always a plus in my opinion, and has become one that I use frequently any time of year.   KILLER SLOPPY JOE’S WITH PORTOBELLA MUSHROOMS   INGREDIENTS   large garlic clove 1 white or yellow onion, diced extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) or beef broth 1 pound ground beef 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce (preferably organic) 1-2 tablespoon Bragg’s raw apple cider vinegar (ACV) 1 packet Stevia Plus- for EACH Tbsp of ACV … Continue reading

Incorporating Essential Oils Into Recipes

I love incorporating essential oils into recipes. It’s a lot easier than some might think and only takes a second. Adding essential oils to a recipe has a two fold purpose… not only does it enhance the taste of the dish but more importantly it provides all the benefits of that particular essential oil and assures me that everyone eating the dish receives those benefits.  A great way to share with your family members, especially children, and you don’t even have to tell them. It really is as simple as adding an oil of the same ingredient. Let me explain… last night I made salsa using fresh produce from my garden, to go with the Taco Salad we were having for dinner. The salsa recipe calls for lime juice, sooooo…. I also add a drop or two of lime essential oil. A couple words of caution here though… I almost never add the … Continue reading

Shelf Life of Essential Oils

by David Stewart, Ph.D., R.A. People who use adulterated or synthetic oils worry about shelf life. Some British references on aromatherapy say one should throw away their oils every six months and purchase a fresh quantity. Such advice may be valid for certain carrier blend oils, but is not valid for pure unadulterated aromatic oils that are the products of distillation. In order to discuss shelf life, you need to distinguish between various classes of scented oils. There are four types of fragrant oils to consider: (1) Essential oils (distilled). (2) Expressed oils (usually citrus); (2) Absolutes (solvent extractions); and (4) Carrier Blend Oils (essential oils in a fatty base). The shelf lives of these four classes of aromatic oils are different. While expressed, absolute, and carrier blend oils contain large molecules along with their small aromatic ones, pure essential oils obtained entirely by distillation contain only small molecules. Large … Continue reading

Young Living has various types of Frankincense essential oil available…….. including Frankincense resin!Frankincense is one of the oldest essential oils in the world, has been used in religious ceremonies for thousands of years, and is considered the “holy anointing oil” in the Middle East. Out-of-Stock Options

For those of you concerned about the occasional oil that may be available in limited supply, or that go OUT OF STOCK for a period of time, products like VALOR and LEDUM, believe it or not, this should come as welcome news. Many times it is precisely because of Young Living’s commitment to quality that an oil or product will go out of stock. It shows you the level of commitment that Gary Young has… to bring the worlds finest quality essential oils to market without compromising QUALITY for quantity. This is the kind of commitment needed that assures consistent, reliable results! OTHER REASONS FOR OUT-OF-STOCKS Sometimes the lack of ability to procure oils from our partner farms comes not from diminishing supplies but because they are in regions of the world torn apart by violence and are currently considered restricted war-zones. Vetiver and Clove are two such oils as … Continue reading

SAFETY ISSUES FAQ’s- Topical & Oral Applications of Essential Oils?

There are many reasons why I believe that Young Living’s essential oils are THE BEST oils on the market and try to document and explain these reasons whenever possible. I’ve added a must read article for those wanting to educate themselves and expand their knowledge base on the safe use of our oils and just updated my page ADULTERATED OILS & THEIR DANGERS with an article that was published in the July 2013 edition of Aromatopia (A Japanese journal) about the safety of neat, topical, and oral administration of essential oils entitled TOPICAL AND ORAL ADMINISTRATION OF ESSENTIAL OILS—SAFETY ISSUES by Johnson S, Boren K. Abstract. Multiple aromatherapy models exist, both advocating and discouraging neat topical and oral administration of essential oils. Recently, attention to these safety issues has expanded as a growing number of health care professionals and individuals adopt aromatherapy as an adjunct therapeutic practice. The safety issues … Continue reading

Young Living vs Other Brands of Oils

Prior to Young Living I used to think that essential oils were really nothing more than nice smelling scents. My initial experience with Young Living’s essential oils started back in 2007 and it didn’t take long to change that line of thinking. Gary Young’s initial experience with essential oils was very similar. He had used essential oils before but pushed them aside rather quickly as they never produced consistent, reliable results. Then someone introduced him to what Gary came to term as “therapeutic-grade” essential oils… and it was a game changer. I stumbled across an article in which the author was talking about trying other oils, saying that they would work just as well but save money. I had to laugh when reading it as it mirrors my initial experience with essential oils. I too thought I could purchase other oils that would be just as effective but at lower … Continue reading

Young Living, Urban Zen and Kent State in First-ever Nursing Program

Young Living, Urban Zen and Kent State in First-ever Nursing Program SALT LAKE CITY—October 25, 2010 Nurses have always played a critical role in helping others, but that help often comes at the expense of their own personal health and well-being. That was the primary message shared with 30 nursing students last month at Kent State’s College of Nursing. The students were the first to participate in a special curriculum of self-care for nurses, developed to help practitioners avoid being burned out in their demanding line of work. The curriculum is part of the Urban Zen Integrative Therapy (UZIT) program, which focuses on combining Eastern modalities and techniques (yoga therapy, essential oil therapy and Reiki) with Western medicine. Young Living partnered with Urban Zen to provide an Everyday Oils kit for each participant, and Young Living Gold Member Tracy Griffiths taught the students about the science behind, and benefits of, … Continue reading
