Each and every day we use products in our homes, that are slowly poisoning us with toxic chemicals. We need to start reading labels and become informed consumers! According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Top 10 Killer Household Chemicals Study the top 10 most dangerous chemicals in our home: air fresheners, cleaning supplies, dishwasher soap and dish soap. Dangers of Synthetic Fragrances

Most people are totally unaware of the dangers that synthetic fragrances pose to our health or how many times we’re exposed to them on a daily basis. Chemical fragrance is really nothing more than a conglomeration of man-made chemicals, many of them very toxic and found to cause many health problems including cancer. Fragrance is found in all kinds of everyday products… scented candles, air fresheners (both plug-in and spray cans), hand sanitizers, laundry detergent, fabric softeners, dryer sheets, household cleaning products, personal care products to include shampoos, deodorant, body washes, and cosmetics. Even in your favorite perfumes and colognes. The list literally goes on and on. If a product has a fragrance chances are its coming from a toxic soup of synthetic, man-made chemicals. We are constantly exposed to them and they can be found literally everywhere- in our homes, cars, schools, office buildings, stores, malls, etc. In fact, … Continue reading

Choosing the Best Carrier Oils for Your Skin Type

Choosing the Best Carrier Oil 2

It’s fun to create our own creams and lotions, and doing so is a wonderful way to individualize them for our own skin type and personal use, or to make gifts for others, while avoiding all the harmful chemicals found in manufactured items. Your skin is like a great big sponge and absorbs EVERYTHING that you put on it, or emmerse yourself in. Give some thought into choosing the best carrier oils for your skin type for best results and absorption. When mixing a carrier oil with essential oils meant for topical use, depending on what you’re using it for, you’ll want to tailor it to your individual skin type. I love making my own products as it allows me to know exactly what’s going onto, and into my body. During the winter, when skin can get dry, making my own body butter makes a huge diffence in my skin … Continue reading

Its a real treat and I love applying this to my face before going to bed at night. You’ll love the way your skin feels. Consider making some of this up for friends or family and giving as a gift! 12 Days of Christmas DIY Body Lotion Bars

This is day three of the 12 Days of Christmas DIY Recipes series, showing you how to use your essential oils and make your own essential oil infused gifts. Today’s project focuses on showing you how to make beautiful, luxurious body lotion bars. I’ve tried making homemade lotions before but have to say, I prefer body lotion bars over lotions. I’m hooked on them! Unlike lotions, lotion bars don’t require the addition of any emulsifying ingredients like homemade lotions do, which can be tricky. Lotion bars are solid at room temp, but when rubbed on your skin the heat from your body melts it leaving a thin layer of moisturizing ingredients clinging to your skin. Making homemade toiletry items gives me the ability to determine what goes into them and allows me to fine tune the final product to meet my needs at the time. It allows me to avoid … Continue reading

Dirty Little Secrets of the Fragrance Industry

The fragrance industry doesn’t want you to know about their dirty little secrets! They don’t want you to know that your favorite scented candles, and personal care and household products… perfume, shampoo, lotion, shower gel, deodorant, dryer sheets, fabric softener, air fresheners, etc. contain a complex concoction of toxic synthetic chemicals, could be the root cause of some of your health issues. They take chemicals from their stockpile of chemical ingredients, often made from petrochemicals, to produce some of the best smelling, allergy-inducing, hormone disrupting, headache and cancer causing fragrances in the world. What they don’t tell you about is that many of these chemicals present potential health risks and build up in people’s bodies and pollute it. According to Environmental Working Group (EWG)… “When you see “fragrance” on a personal care product’s label, read it as “hidden chemicals.” A major loophole in FDA’s federal law lets manufacturers of products … Continue reading

Winter BEAUTY Regime for Dry Skin

Winter weather can bring along with it dry, itchy, flaky skin due to harsh soaps, dry indoor air, low humidity, winter wind and cold-weather! Fortunately though, there are safe, natural everyday products found in many homes that one can use to help hydrate and soothe dry skin without using the commercial, chemical laden lotions and oils on the market. Soothing the itch and re-hydrating your skin by treating it with a winter beauty regime, once-a-week, is a lot easier and cheaper than you might think. During the winter I try to exfoliate and moisturize by using a homemade DIY oil based body scrub made up of organic extra virgin olive oil, epsom salts, plain white sugar and essential oils. I don’t always have time to do this and will often just simply apply this luxuriously rich body butter after showering instead. Either of these will leave your skin feeling … Continue reading
