ESSENTIAL OIL INFUSED EPSOM SALTS BATHS- THE ULTIMATE RELAXATION EXPERIENCE

I absolutely love making my own bath salts. Adding them to a bath is one of my favorite ways to relax and unwind after a stressful day. Using them this way is extremely fast and easy but there are a couple of guidelines to follow.

1- Never add the oils directly to the water. For even dispersion, add no more than 5-10 drops of essential oil with Epsom salts or unscented bath gel base first, and mix well. Then add this mixture to bath warm water and stir to dissolve salts as tub is filling BEFORE getting in. The Epsom salts help disperse the oils and keeps them from floating on top of the water, not to mention all the other benefits they have to offer. When oils float on top of the water some can cause an uncomfortable tingling sensation so be sure avoid adding them directly to bath water.

2- For large soaking tubs you may want to double the amount of Epsom salts, sea salts, baking soda etc. but NOT the amount of oils. Remember, essential oils are VERY concentrated and it only takes a few drops to achieve the desired results.

3- Soak at least 20 minutes or more for maximum benefits. Generally never use more than 10 drops of essential oils in one bath.

There are various ingredients and ways to make your own bath salts. You can make just enough for one bath, or make a larger quantity and then store in an airtight glass jar. Decide which works for you and begin.

    BASIC VERSION 1
    1 cup Epsom salts
10 drops essential oils (up to 3 different ones)

    BASIC VERSION 2
    1/2 cup Epsom salts
1/2 cup baking soda (not powder)
10 drops essential oils (up to 3 different ones)

    BASIC VERSION 3
    1/2 cup Epsom salts
    1/2 cup sea salts
1 Tbsp baking soda (not powder)
10 drops essential oils (up to 3 different ones)

NOTE: Add 1/2 cup soap flakes if you’d like the bath salts to create a bubble bath effect or to clean the skin. Soap flakes are usually made from mild castile soap and are available in drugstores or online.

Below are some of my favorite essential oils or combination of oils to use but this is just a very small sampling of the options available to you. Have a little fun and experiment, and come up with your own combinations!

-10 drops JOY (*photosensitive) essential oil blend
    -10 drops PEACE & CALMING
-5 drops VALOR, 5 drops Lavender
    -5 drops VALOR, 5 drops
-6 drops CHRISTMAS SPIRIT, 5 drops Idaho Blue Spruce
-6 drops Idaho Blue Spruce, 4 drops Juniper
-5 Bergamot (*photosensitive), 5 drops Geranium
-3 drops Eucalyptus, 4 drops Tea Tree essential oil, 3 drops Lavender

*PHOTOSENSITIVE OILS: Some essential oils are photosensitive, which means that they can react with direct sunlight or UV lighting (such as tanning salons). and may cause a rash or dark pigmentation when applied on skin exposed to direct sunlight or UV rays within 1-2 days of application. When using photosensitive essential oils, you should avoid exposure to the sun and UV lighting between 24-48 hours depending on the oil. Check the oil bottle label, the Young Living website, and/or your essential oil reference guide to determine which oils are photosensitive.

GIFT IDEA

Essential oil infused bath salts makes a super easy gift. Just make up a batch, add to a glass container with a lid, add ribbon and gift tag and presto you’re done. Insert in a gift bag with some tissue paper and you’re good to go. In the image above, you can see a gift jar on the left side. I found this at a thrift store but you can find similar jars online or at craft stores, WalMart, Hobby Lobby, Joann Fabrics, etc. You could even use decorative pint sized canning jars.

At Young Living, we encourage everyone to live healthy, chemical free lifestyles… ones that includes the use of our premium-grade essential oils. We like to call it living an “Oil Infused Lifestyle”. Those people who experience the best results with essential oils are the ones using their oils everyday. Remember, if you’re new to essential oils be sure to check out this page.
